Nunzio Del Greco
Nunzio Del Greco was born in the city of Orsogna, Abruzzo, Italy. His family immigrated to the United Stated in 1958, settling in The Bronx to pursue The American Dream. He comes from a family of builders and construction workers. His grandfather Raffaele travelled back and forth from Italy to New York in the early 1900s to work as a sand hog in the subways. His father Francesco was a bricklayer and worked on many of the skyscrapers in Manhattan. Nunzio was the first in his family to graduate college earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Queens College and a Master’s Degree from St. John’s University. His family values helped him develop an extraordinary record of leadership, integrity and professionalism promoting business and economic development.
Nunzio was presented the Community Service Award by Providence Rest May 2017. He was awarded the first citywide annual Corporate Social Responsibility Award by City & State Magazine on March 30, 2017. In December 2016, he was recognized by City & State Magazine as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Leaders in The Bronx and ranked 9th out of the 50. Nunzio was presented the Businessman of the Year Award by the Bronx County Historical Society in 2010.
He is currently President and CEO of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, a position he has held since November 2015. For Nunzio, it’s a homecoming since he was a member of the Board of Directors in 1984. He has a framed copy of the 91st Annual Luncheon Program held May 29, 1985 at “The Eastwood” Manor. His name is printed in the Program along with such distinguished individuals as the New York Yankees’ Owner, George Steinbrenner; Chairman of Dollar Savings Bank, Henry G. Waltermade; Bronx District Attorney, Hon. Mario Merola; former Executive Director of the Bronx Chamber, Michael J. Durso; and many others. Nunzio is a part the Bronx Chamber’s rich history and leads the organization into the future.
Nunzio produced the first annual 2017 Bronx Business Directory & Resource Guide. The Bronx has never had such a comprehensive publication. In addition to the glossy printed publication, a Digital Edition is available at www.BronxChamber.org. The Guide includes: Advertisements, listing of all elected officials, Highlights in Housing, Arts and Culture, Tourism, Higher Education, Timeline of the Bronx through the Centuries, alphabetical listings of members, listings by categories, and much more.
He rebranded the Chamber’s events creating the Bronx version of the academy awards with the Bronx Business Awards Annual Gala Celebration. Members and friends were encouraged to nominate companies to be honored for the first time. The response was overwhelming. He expanded the list of committees to include: Young Professionals Network (YPN) and M/WBE (Minority/Women Business Enterprises) committees. A number of new initiatives are planned to further grow the Chamber and serve over 30,000 businesses in The Bronx.
Nunzio began his career in 1983 as Executive Vice President of the Bronx Board of Realtors. He quickly became an intuitive problem solver and consensus builder. He coined the slogan “you never know where your next big deal is going to come from”. Through his efforts, many companies generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in new business.
In 1983 with a membership of under one hundred and a budget of less than $80,000, Nunzio over the years grew the membership to over 1,000 members and began generating over $1,000,000 annually without any grants or public funding. He also expanded the organization’s jurisdiction to include Manhattan with the name change to Bronx-Manhattan Association of Realtors (BMAR). Nunzio was presented the Distinguished Service Award in 2004 and the first and only Lifetime Service Award in 2013. Nunzio is the only Executive to serve as President and CEO of both the Bronx Chamber of Commerce and BMAR.
Nunzio served as Vice President Business Development Commercial Lending for Flushing Bank from May 2014 through November 2015. He managed and built relationships with mix-use, commercial real estate owners and affluent consumers. He assisted and expedited financing for major property owners, brokers and management companies throughout the Greater New York region. He originated and processed over 145 loans with a dollar value of $708 Million Dollars during this period until being recruited to return back to The Bronx.
A few notable people have been mentors to Nunzio including: Ralph J. Taibi, commercial real estate broker from Hunts Point; Michael J. Durso, Senior VP Dollar Savings Bank; Elias Karmon, philanthropist well known as “Mr. Bronx”; and Virginia Gallagher, developer of Pilot Cover Manor on City Island. They have each profoundly impacted Nunzio and are fondly referred as his “Guardian Angels”.
Nunzio is a community leader and fundraiser for a number of charities including: American Cancer Society; Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; ALS Walk at Eisenhower Park; Avon Walk for Breast Cancer at Jones Beach and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
On a personal level, Nunzio is married to his wonderful wife Aureliana (Lana) for over 32 years and is the proud father of Robert, Stefanie and Christofer.
