In partnership with The Bronx Historical Society, the Woodlawn Trolley will take participants on a trip to explore the “sleeping places” of those who have come before us. Some burial grounds are long since vanished; others survive into the 21st century. Participants will learn what burial secrets neighborhood’s hold and about the burial practices and mourning rituals of Victorians, graveside symbolism and the famous who still dwell among us. Some are located on land once owned by families whose names grace two of the city’s largest parks, while others are still attached to our borough’s oldest landmarks, such as St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at Westchester Square. We will be meeting at the Jerome Avenue and Bainbridge Avenue gate at 11:45 AM and the Trolley Tour will begin at 12:00 PM. There are only 30 seats so tickets must be purchased in advance. We look forward to hosting you.
